About:
The LAII offers competitive PhD Fellowship awards to doctoral students to support dissertation research and writing related to Latin America and Iberia.
In order to be considered for the LAII PhD Fellowship, students must be nominated or re-nominated by the chairperson of their department; no self-nominations will be accepted. Students who seek nomination or re-nomination are encouraged to contact either the chairperson or graduate advisor of the nominating department.
LAII PhD application forms are distributed by the nominating department and are not available directly from the LAII. Students who are nominated by their department should submit their application materials directly to their department in electronic PDF format and according to its internal procedures. Awardees must have passed their comprehensive examinations by May 31st, 2027 to qualify for funding.
The deadline for departments to submit their nomination packet to the LAII is February 17th, 2027. Departmental deadlines will be earlier.
