Event Funding

As part of an effort to promote understanding and awareness of Latin America and Iberia across disciplines at The University of New Mexico, the Latin American and Iberian Institute offers event funding support throughout the year. This support bolsters the campus community’s ability to hold lectures, presentations, exhibits, performances, and other events related to Latin America and Iberia.

Fall semester priority deadline: September 30 every year for fall and early spring semester events.
Spring semester priority deadline: February 15 every year for spring and early fall semester events.
Applications received by the deadline will be prioritized for funding. Funding permitting, requests submitted after deadline dates will also be considered.

Financial Support

The LAII may provide up to $500.00 after evaluating each proposal on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Focus on Latin American, Iberian or US Latino/Hispano content
  • Number likely to attend and from what disciplines/communities
  • Linkages across campus
  • Number of co-sponsors
  • Quality of speaker(s)
  • Benefit to off-campus community

In-Kind Support

In addition to financial assistance, the LAII can also provide modest in-kind assistance for selected relevant events. In return for being acknowledged as a co-sponsor for an activity, the LAII may be able to assist with promotional materials, publicity, and audio archiving of the event. The degree of in-kind support is contingent on advance notice and staff availability.

All students, faculty, and staff of The University of New Mexico community are eligible to submit requests for event funding. Events must be free and open to the public. Only one request per event or series will be considered and a maximum of one event per individual will be funded per year.
To apply for event funding, complete and submit the application. There are two priority deadlines, one in the fall term and one in the spring term. Please check the application for this year's deadline.

If supported with financial or in-kind assistance, we ask that the UNM Latin American and Iberian Institute be acknowledged on promotional materials and that copies of any such materials be shared with us. Please see our Expectations for Acknowledgement for details.
