Title of Dissertation : “Planificar es cuestión de querer”: Women’s Citizenship & Reproductive Health in 1970s Mexico

Edrea’s research focuses on the relationship between Mexico’s state making process and matters of women’s reproductive health (sex education, family planning, and abortion) in Mexico during the 1970s. Her work is centered on the question of women’s health and bodily autonomy as a site of contestation between the state and the wide spectrum of women involved in reproductive activism. She seeks to gain a clearer understanding of why the state gave such importance to the political, economic, social, and racial dimensions of women’s reproductive capabilities and how the conflicts that arose from these contestations shaped both the Mexican state’s and women’s notions of citizenship
