Research Title : “Negros putos de Bolivia y Paraguay”: El Club Atlético Boca Juniors y los cánticos racistas en el fútbol argentino
Banter is a part of football in Argentina and as the most common channel are chants, these then become a way of expressing group identity and of labeling others. However, racist and xenophobic chants target one team in particular: Boca Juniors. Leonel's research is dedicated to the investigation of the origins of these chants, looking for connections to the geographical and historical context of the La Boca neighborhood in Buenos Aires. More specifically, his investigation looks to connect racist and xenophobic chants to the issue of violence surrounding football, and more specifically to larger narratives of whiteness in Argentina.
