Title of Dissertation : "Part of Something Greater": American Women Volunteers in the Spanish Civil War
Gina studies transnational history with an emphasis on the interwar period and antifascism. Her dissertation project looks at the nearly seventy American women volunteers of the American Medical Bureau to Aid Spanish Democracy (AMB) who served as nurses, laboratory technicians, ambulance drivers, translators, and secretaries for the Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). Her research will evaluate the cross sections of interwar transnational antifascism, gender, and women’s activism while discovering new perspectives on Spain and the Spanish Civil War through the lens of the female volunteers.
