Sebastian Acevedo is currently a Linguistics graduate student at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, where he focuses on the areas of language contact and plurilingualism, being Brazilian Portuguese one of his languages of interest and focus, amongst other South American languages, such as Guaraní Yopará, and languages spoken in the Caribbean. Certified by Cambridge University as an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) instructor, he currently works as a language lab professor at the University of Sagrado Corazón in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Taking into consideration his academic background in social sciences, he participated in Tulane University’s Summer in Brazil program, a six-week intensive course focused on the improvement of advanced redaction skills in Portuguese on topics related to social justice, taking into consideration Brazilian society and its current imaginaries. Sebastian wishes to continue pursuing teaching and also research on topics related to language and society, both in the Caribbean and South America.
