Josué is a PhD candidate in the department of Sociocultural and Linguistic Anthropology (SCALA). Josué a student of Central American and Mesoamerican languages, histories, and cultures, and is of Central American heritage. Josué has received a FLAS fellowship for the 2024-2025 academic year. Their dissertation research is based in El Salvador where Nahua-Pipil, a language related to Central Mexican Nahuatl, was historically widespread. Josué is investigating the complex, drawn-out decline of Nahua-Pipil and its replacement by Castilian Spanish.
