Teaching Assistantships
A small number of students pursuing an MA, MA dual degree, or PhD in the Latin American Studies program may be considered for a teaching assistantship with the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Teaching assistantships provide recipients with relevant experience for academic-related careers, particularly in teaching or research.Awarded for up to two years, the teaching assistantship is generally a .5 FTE (20 hour) appointment with a two course teaching load per semester. Please see Graduate Studies website for more information on tuition stipends, health insurance, and monthly salary.
All incoming students are eligible for teaching assistantship with the Department of Spanish & Portuguese, including US permanent residents, undocumented students, and international students.
Teaching assistantships are awarded to incoming students who demonstrate outstanding academic promise. Language proficiency must be demonstrated in both English and Spanish before the assistantship can be officially awarded.
