Geography and Environmental Studies
The Geography and Environmental Studies concentration offers an integrative perspective on the relations among social, political, economic, and physical phenomena in space and place throughout Latin America. Geography describes and explains the past, present, and future locations and spatial patterns of humans and their settlements, cultural and economic traits, and natural environment and resources. Students gain the methodological and theoretical tools to address important issues relating to the environment and how culture and nature are connected. The GES faculty’s work and teaching interests cover significant parts of Latin America and the Caribbean as well as the US Southwest and borderlands.
