Field Research Grants

Faculty at The University of New Mexico frequently engage in field research in Latin America and Iberia. To support their efforts and contribute to the dynamic scholarship on Latin America and Iberia taking place across campus, the LAII regularly offers financial support for faculty field research.

Faculty field research grants (FRGs) are meant to give UNM faculty members opportunities to begin field work on new projects or to complete, supplement, or add a comparative dimension to field research conducted previously.
Tenured or tenure-track faculty members at UNM are eligible, and may apply individually or jointly. Priority will be given to first time applicants. Awards are given on the basis of merit.
The research must be conducted outside of the United States in Latin America, Spain, or Portugal. Research must be relevant to Latin American or Iberian area studies, including a significant component related to the human societies of the region. Complete guidelines and application instructions are included in the application form.

The LAII asks that funding recipients formally acknowledge the Institute's role in supporting their scholarship. Please review our complete Expectations for Acknowledgement for more details.
