Hadas Segal, 2026-2027 PhD Fellow

The LAII offers competitive PhD Fellowship awards to support doctoral students conducting dissertation research and writing related to Latin America and Iberia.

Meet PhD fellow, Hadas Segal. Hadas is a PhD student in the history department. Hadas’ project is titled: Unburied pasts: a comparative study of reconciliation in post Dictatorial Argentina and Uruguay (1970-2020). Hadas notes that her “research focus emerged from my 2025 LAII FRG archival work in Buenos Aires and Montevideo. While initially centered on women’s sexualities, I encountered medical files and case studies documenting post-dictatorial trauma, particularly among marginalized groups. This shifted my project toward examining broader dynamics of memory, trauma, and recovery while retaining attention to individual experiences. LAII fellowship thus allows me to continue that trajectory by supporting my PhD research on survivor testimonies, state policies, and marginalized voices, strengthening the depth and scope of my transnational analysis.”
