Meet AY FLAS awardee, Sandro Sebastián Espinosa y Mann. Sandro is double majoring in Anthropology and Latin American Studies. He is learning intermediate Yucatec Maya to further expand his knowledge of Mexican Indigenous Languages. He is deeply interested in the teaching and preservation of these languages and in developing stronger learning systems for learners of all ages. In addition, Sandro has completed all levels of Nahuatl at UNM. He is currently writing a cookbook in Nahuatl that highlights traditional dishes, the beliefs and stories connected to them, as well as the ways these foods shape identity from a Nahua perspective.
