LAII Receives People-to-People License for Programs in Cuba

When staff and faculty from the Latin American & Iberian Institute traveled to Habana, Cuba, last summer, one of their goals was to secure a People-to-People license, which would expand upon the LAII's program offerings in Cuba. They recently learned that they successfully acquired the license.

"We are one of only a handful of universities to have secured this type of license, which is generally reserved for travel agencies and chambers of commerce," Susan Tiano, director, LAII, said. "This license will supplement the academic license that the LAII has managed for over three decades. While the academic license permits travel to Cuba for UNM faculty and students, the People-to-People license enables us to organize educational programs for members of the community beyond UNM."

The LAII will keep the campus and community apprised of People-to-People programs and activities as they develop them. Tiano added, "We are happy for input and ideas for engaging community groups."
