Student Profiles

Our students are diverse.  Many hail from states other than New Mexico and approximately one-third  are from Latin America.

A wide range of personal, professional, and academic interests compel them. Some come to the program after pursuing careers related to Latin America , while others come directly from their undergraduate studies but with experience or interest in the region.

Current students are focusing their studies on topics such as the impact of well-designed urban planning on disaster preparedness and recovery in Latin America, health care issues in Latino communities in the US and Latin America, the role of gentrification on urban planning in Peruvian cities, and the impact of post-import substitution industrialization policies on employment and socio-economic equity in Brazil, Chile and Mexico.
