Assistant Professor Susana Martínez Guillem holds an appointment in the Department of Communication and Journalism at The University of New Mexico. She offers graduate-level classes for Latin American Studies students, with topics exploring the discursive articulations of knowledge and power, subjectivity and identity, cultural citizenship, linguistic landscapes, globalization, memory, and borderlands, among others. Her research and teaching interests are in critical discourse studies, cultural studies, interpretive and critical approaches to intercultural communication, and rhetorics of immigration, race and racism in the European Union and the United States. In her research, she explores the reciprocal relationship between social practices and culture. Additionally, she is the 2014 recipient of the Outstanding Research Award sponsored by the International and Intercultural Communication Division at NCA.
