Dr. Ruth Trinidad-Galván is an associate professor of Educational Thought and Sociocultural Studies in the Department of Language, Literacy and Sociocultural Studies at The University of New Mexico. Additionally, she is an adjunct faculty in the Women’s Studies program and the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies. Her research examines global, transmigrant, and transnational issues of Latin American immigrants, Latina education in the U.S., and womanist/feminist epistemologies and pedagogies. She is a two-time recipient of the Fulbright Scholars Award, and has conducted research and taught in Ecuador and Mexico. Most recently, her research in Zacatecas, Mexico, focused on the increasing number of immigrants voluntarily returning or forced to return to their community of origin as a result of the United States’ lack of immigration reform and economic recession.  She is the co-editor of the Handbook of Latinos and Education, which the Critics Choice Award in 2010 from the American Educational Studies Association and the author of Women Who Stay Behind: Pedagogies of Survival in Rural Transmigration Mexico [University of Arizona Press]. She has published over 25 peer-reviewed publications in scholarly venues, has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Latinos and Education since 2005, and collaborated with the Latino Education Advocacy Day Consortium, which works at the national level on Latino education issues.
