Regents’ Professor Eleni Bastéa received an appointment in the School of Architecture and Planning at The University of New Mexico in 2001. Since 2013 she has served as the Director of the International Studies Institute (ISI). Bastéa’s teaching and research interests are in architectural and urban history, memory and architecture, cultural history of place, literature, and pottery. Additionally, her current research focuses on Geographies of Loss and Thessaloniki: Topographies of History, Memory, and Desire. As the ISI director, Bastéa engages in extensive interdisciplinary collaboration and co-organized the “Cultures of Exile: Conversations on Language and the Arts” (2013) conference, as well as the lecture series, “Modern Societies in Crisis: Global Challenges and Solutions (2014) and “Peace: From Conflict to Reconciliation” (2015).
