Join the Albuquerque Mexican Consulate, the Latin American and Iberian Institute and teacher Claudio Pérez, in the opening of the Border Doors Exhibit which focused on Latin American migration to the US.
Claudio will share his Border Door project’s inspiration and offer a background onmigration. Participants will reflect on the immigrant experience and explore how art canbe a powerful tool for storytelling and change. Participants will also enjoy a tour of theexhibit reflecting on the human stories behind immigration.
Claudio Pérez is a Spanish Teacher at Sandia Preparatory School. Since 2014, he has been taking his advanced Spanish-language students to El Paso, Texas where they utilize their Spanish skills to interact first-hand with immigrants and advocates at the Cristo Rey Border Immersion Program. Upon their return to Albuquerque, students illustrate a series of doors containing colorful and powerful imagery that tells the stories of the people they met and reflect on major themes of immigration at the border. The doors at the exhibit are the final product of this project.
