Join the College of Population Health for the annual Jonathan Mann Health and Human Rights Lecture featuring Dr. Marco Akerman, MD, MPH, Professor at the School of Public Health at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. 

The Curitiba Declaration (2016) embodies a spirit of local and global commitment to democracy, equity, and justice. Akerman will share how to prioritize and create strategies to improve health equity and democracy in urban settings using the principles of the Curitiba Declaration. This document has 21 recommendations for all sectors of society; i.e. government at all levels, international organizations, the health sector, economic development, urban design, the citizenry and all community members, to enhance social rights and “health for all’ in an inclusive and  sustainable world. 

In addition to his work at the University of São Paulo Brazil, Akerman also serves as the Head of the Department of Policy, Management and Health; Latin America Vice President of the International Union of Health Promotion and Education (2010-2016); Chair of the Working Group on Health, Promotion and Sustainable Development of the Brazilian Association of Public Health (2010-2016). He focuses his consulting, teaching and research in evaluation of public policies, intersectoral and social determinants of health.
