Elementary Schools Invited to Participate in Spanish Poetry Contest

The LAII is pleased to announce the call for schools to participate in the 17th edition of Poesía eres tú, an annual, state-wide contest in which students from first to fifth grade are invited to recite a poem in Spanish in the most artistic and beautiful way possible in front of their friends, families, teachers, and peers. Poesía eres tú is organized in close partnership with the Spanish Resource Center of Albuquerque and the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

Now in its seventeenth year, this poetry contest continues to prove a meaningful and important experience for student participants. Poesía eres tú provides both native and non-native Spanish speaking students and their teachers the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of and appreciation for Spanish language poetry. Tasked with learning, memorizing, and dramatizing Spanish poetry, the student participants complete the event with a deepened appreciation for Spanish language and culture.

First-time schools must register by January 30, 2016. Each registered school can send a maximum of five student representatives. The contest will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, NM. Interested schools should contact Mayte Villa of the Spanish Resource Center at spanish.resource[at]state.nm.us.
