“Ni de aquí, ni de allá.” Between borderlands, Isela was raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Durango, México. She graduated from the University of New Mexico with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with a focus in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL). As an educator, her philosophy is centered on bridging pedagogy to student's identities and lived realities.
Isela is currently pursuing a dual master's degree in Latin American Studies with a focus in Conflict, Peace, and Rights, and in Language, Literacy and Sociocultural Studies, with a focus in Bilingual Education. Her research focus is on indigenous language, land, and culture preservation while further understanding the sociocultural influence education plays in the lives of indigenous peoples.
