Neider's project explores how the Pijao people of Colombia have responded to external expectations about indigenous identity and how they have redefined their identity in the contemporary context. It critically examines the criteria used to validate indigeneity, challenging stereotypes imposed by the state and society. Through a qualitative case study involving interviews and fieldwork in Tolima, Colombia, the study aims to highlight diverse ways of being indigenous today, focusing on identity reconstruction amidst cultural loss, displacement, and assimilation. Preliminary research will involve collaboration with local communities and indigenous organizations to enrich the analysis with historical and policy perspectives.
