This project supports a two-week field research and residency with traditional weaver and cultural worker Maestra Rita in Illapel, Chile. As a bilingual, bicultural MFA candidate in Art & Ecology, my research braids multimodal poetry, ecological artmaking, and textile traditions together. Rooted through my matrilineal line, this research deepens my exploration of text and textile as practices interconnected with place. Through immersive learning, documentation, and public engagement, I aim to contribute to interdisciplinary scholarship, cultural preservation, and cross-hemispheric exchange. Outcomes will inform my thesis exhibition (Spring 2026) and a bilingual publication, centering Indigenous and diasporic knowledges in arts and cultural ecologies.
