My participation in this project is an ongoing position as a research assistant to Dr. Rosa Vallejos. We are traveling together along with an undergraduate research assistant to the Peruvian Amazon in order to document the Secoya language. There are approximately 1,000 Secoya people across 9 villages in Peru and Ecuador; we will visit a village in Peru. My role in this project is to assist Dr. Vallejos to gather data on several topics, including how Secoya-Spanish bilinguals encode property concepts such as ‘big’, ‘round’ or ‘old’. We ask: do the Secoyas combine these concepts to characterize objects?
