Human Rights

The Human Rights concentration provides an interdisciplinary understanding to human rights problems, advances, and challenges in the hemisphere. Coursework addresses the intellectual history of human rights; development of international human rights instruments and institutions; variations in state compliance and actual observance of individual and group rights; case studies of authoritarian regimes; variations in human rights conditions under elected civilian regimes; transitional justice; and the role of civil society advocacy for human rights protections and post-authoritarian accountability.
