Julián "Gonz" Ángel was born and raised in southern New Mexico Hatch the Chile Captial of the World and is the proud son of Mexican immigrants. He aspires to become a Latin American and Latinx Studies professor focusing on educational policy. He aims to understand the intersection of Latinx social identities, values, and languages, specifically at Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). Julián is studying Maya t'an (Yucatec Maya) to explore how federal programs can preserve indigenous Latin American languages to enhance cultural curricula and honor students' native languages. He is grateful to Edy, Catherine Rhodes, Ph.D., Lenny Urena Valerio, Ph.D., and FLAS at the Latin American and Iberian Institute for the opportunity to advance his research on HSIs and create equitable education opportunities for Latin American scholars.
