Rafael Velázquez

Rafael Velázquez is an International Relations professor at the School of Economics and International Relations (FEyRI) of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC). He holds a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Miami. He was a fellow at the US-Mexican Studies Center of the University of California, San Diego, and held the Mexico Studies Chair of the Fulbright Program at the University of New Mexico in the Fall of 2024.He is the past-president of the Mexican International Studies Association (AMEI). He is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI), level III, and is a regular member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC). He is currently president of the Center for Teaching and Analyzing Mexico's Foreign Policy (CESPEM).
His research interests focus on Mexican foreign policy, diplomacy, geopolitics, international cooperation, and US-Mexican relationships. He is the author of several books, chapters, and articles in academic journals about his research interests. He is the author of the book: Principled Pragmatism in Mexico's Foreign Policy: Assumptions and Variables.
