Title of Research : José Genival Bezerra Ferreira received a Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar award in Fall 2008 to support research on Representations of Black and Indian Latinos during the Colonial Period and their Influence on Social Identities and Cultures. While at UNM, Bezerra Ferreira's work constituted an analysis of iconographic images (drawings and photographs) of Blacks and Indians found in magazines, newspapers and academic books.  His research project focused on the stereotypes that negatively influence the formation of social and cultural identities of Latin American youth within these ethnic groups, and drew upon theories relating to Visual Anthropology and Cultural Studies.
