The Latin American and Iberian Institute (LAII) draws together a wide, diverse community. LAII staff, including full-time professional staff, part-time graduate assistants, and student employees, oversees office operations and academic programs. Faculty affiliated with the LAII engage in research and teaching that is key to UNM's overall dedication to Latin American studies. Students enrolled in the Latin American Studies program, as well as those in other Latin Americanist disciplines, represent a vital part of the LAII community. Alumni of the Latin American Studies program extend the LAII community beyond UNM. Scholars whose work pertains to Latin America are upon occasion provided institutional access and recognition by the LAII. Lastly, committees composed of students, faculty, and community members offer invaluable input on LAII-related events, awards, and programs.
