Course Development

As part of the LAII's efforts to foster stimulating teaching and scholarship related to research, each year we issue a call for course development proposals. The courses that we seed help to infuse or strengthen Latin American content in departments across campus.

The call for course development proposals is issued each spring, and is connected to the funding that the LAII receives through our US Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center grant. Courses must contain at least 40% content relevant to Latin American Studies. Preference will be given to courses that are part of the department's required curriculum. Thematic priorities change, and will be announced each year as part of the call.
Tenured and tenure-track faculty at The University of New Mexico are eligible to apply.

To apply, submit a one-page overview of the course, as well as a communication (email or memo) from the department chair that indicates support to include the course in the department's schedule of regular offerings. The grant provides $2,500 for each new course developed or revised. It is expected that the course will be taught as a part of the faculty member's regular teaching load. Details concerning each year's call for proposals will be circulated directly to the LAII Faculty Concilium.
