Funding

The Latin American & Iberian Institute awards and administers merit-based aid, including graduate assistantships, graduate fellowships, and departmental scholarships.  These awards are based primarily on outstanding academic performance, though other criteria may also be considered.  LAII funding opportunities cover a range of academic fees, living costs, study abroad, and research expenditures.

Need-based aid, in the form of work-study grants and/or loans, is available to graduate students through the Office of Student Financial Aid.  To apply, students should consult the Office of Graduate Studies.

The University of New Mexico and the Latin American Studies Program also collaborate with the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education (WICHE) to involve UNM undergraduate and graduate students in a tuition exchange program among twelve (12) Western states.  Students interested in enrolling should consult the Office of Student Financial Aid.
