Miguel Sabol received his bachelor’s degree (from UNM) in International Studies and Spanish with an area concentration on Europe, but his focus during the last year of his undergraduate experience was on learning Portuguese. This exposure to Brazil through his language studies led him to become more interested in Latin America, and it eventually led him to the decision of continuing his education at the University of New Mexico in the MALAS program.

With interests in international relations, human rights, language learning, and development, Miguel believes that the interdisciplinary possibilities of the MALAS degree and the diverse faculty at UNM are a great place to expand his knowledge and learn more about the world. His experiences living in Spain and traveling abroad have given him a deep appreciation for dialogue between people that come from different cultures and places, and he hopes that through the MALAS degree he will be able to engage in and facilitate some of those important conversations one day.

At UNM, Miguel is also a Spanish Teaching Assistant through the LAII and is involved with the university’s Club Tennis team where he has been on the leadership team for 2 years.
