During Ericka's undergraduate experience at Augustana College (in Rock Island, IL), she became enthralled with Latin America and its long history while on a study abroad experience in Ecuador and Peru. She completed a minor in Latin American Studies; however, the classes I took--ranging from geography to literature--got her thinking about how she could continue studying and working with this interdisciplinary field moving into the future. After 4 years of working with Hispanic and Latino students in K-12 schools, Ericka decided to continue her studies and pursue a Master’s in Latin American Studies. She chose New Mexico because of its history with and ties to Latin America.
