Shane is pursuing an M.A. in Spanish with a concentration in Hispanic Linguistics and is also doing coursework in the Anthropology Department. His research focuses on the sociocultural implications of language by examining how power dynamics are reproduced through language ideologies. Through the FLAS, Shane is continuing his Portuguese education with the hopes of utilizing his language skills in multicultural contexts to create more interdisciplinary collaboration between Latin America and the United States. He’s excited to combine his interests in linguistics, anthropology, and community-centered approaches to collaborate with and impact the communities he works with.
