Guidelines for Requesting Funds for Programs and Events

The LAII, through its operations committee, funds lectures, presentations or discussions dealing with the promotion of scholarly activities closely related to Latin America. Requests for funding should be submitted at least one month prior to the date of the event, and are more likely to receive funding than those submitted on short notice. Additionally, the LAII operations committee will not provide retroactive funding for events that have already taken place. While the LAII operations committee will fund a maximum of 50% of international airfare costs, awards will not be modified if transportation prices increase.

Funding Criteria

  1. Relevance to Latin America or Iberia
  2. Number likely to attend and from what disciplines/communities
  3. Linkages across campus
  4. Number of co-sponsors
  5. Quality of speaker(s)
  6. Benefit to off-campus community
  7. Clear explanation of funds requested (e.g. $350 for airfare, $100 lodging and expenses, $50 publicity)
  8. Inclusion of total budget for event, if request is for a portion of that total
