Research Title : Smallholder Farmer Resistance to Constellation Brands Brewery
Anthony Meluso, MS student in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, traveled to Mexicali, Mexico, in the summer of 2018 to examine how farmers frame their motivations for political action against Constellation Brands Brewery in the Mexicali Valley. His research contributes to the work of local actors and existing literature on political resistance to neoliberal water practices in Mexico and Latin America. In collaboration with the NGO Mexicali Resiste, his research creates a deeper understanding of the current resistance to Constellation Brands Brewery in Mexicali. With this work, Anthony aims to provide a case study of farmer resistance to political and ecological changes in the Mexicali Valley.
