Bill Stanley directs the LAII. A political scientist who earned his PhD at MIT, he studies Central American politics, emphasizing political violence, civil wars, and conflict resolution. He is most interested in how international influences shape domestic politics and institutions. Currently, his research focuses on public insecurity in Central America, the management of peace processes, and the politics of climate change. The most challenging and interesting role for him at the LAII is promoting interdisciplinary research and curriculum development. When not at work, he can be found spending time with his family, hiking, climbing, or training at the Aikido dojo.
