K-12 Outreach: Lesson Plans

Día de los Muertos

Mexican RevolutionEach year the LAII partners with the National Hispanic Cultural Center to celebrate and recognize the cultural heritage and practices associated with Día de los Muertos. In 2011, as a result of that collaboration, the LAII produced a curriculum guide to provide hands-on art activities and literacy exercises to bring Día de los Muertos to the classroom. Each year we revise and expand these materials, so please check back annually.

The complete guide is available for downloading or previewing. We have also separated the individual lessons plans (below) for quick reference.

Complementary Resources

In addition to the curriculum guide, the LAII was proud to support the NHCC in developing a visually-rich and informative website which explores the rituals of remembrance and historical origins associated with the holiday. We encourage you to visit the full website or browse for the most relevant section below.

Workshop Photos

When possible, we acknowledge the participants of our professional development workshops by documenting and sharing photos afterwards. Below is a slide show of images from various workshops focused on Día de los Muertos over the past few years.
