Tuesday, March 7, 2017 -- Starting in Spring 2017, the LAII is holding monthly open house events to welcome its community of students, both those enrolled in the LAS program and others from across campus with a broader interest in Latin America. The events provide an informal opportunity to get to know the LAII better.
Tuesday, March 7, 2017 -- On April 14-15, 2017, the LAII will hold its annual Greenleaf Conference on Latin America. This year, the conference focuses on Latin American immigration, asylum, and representation, and emphasizes the need for effective representation in asylum cases. Presentations will take place in the UNM Student Union Building (Lobo A & B) and are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, March 7, 2017 -- DevonNewly-hired Assistant Professor Jennifer Tucker is bringing more than just work experience to The University of New Mexico School of Architecture & Planning. She has a passion for social justice she hopes to be able to spread throughout the New Mexico community.
Tuesday, February 28, 2017 -- Devon received her B.S. in Biology with minors in Spanish and Honors from the University of New Mexico. She chose to also attend graduate school at UNM because of its combined Public Health and Latin American Studies dual-degree Master's programs. The dual-degree program is uniquely designed and conducive to the training she hopes to gain, balancing academics, research, and national and global practice with Latino populations. Devon's research interests include Latino and immigrant health and Mexico-U.S. border health.
Wednesday, February 15, 2017 -- The Student Organization for Latin American Studies annual Sin Fronteras Film Festival will run at The Guild Cinema from February 24th - February 26th.
Tuesday, January 10, 2017 -- Among the new master's students whom the LAII welcomed in fall 2016, Sabrina Hernandez comes to the program with extensive experience in Latin America, and a deep passion for Latin America and coffee that brought her to UNM to pursue a dual-degree in Latin American Studies and Law.
