Increasing urbanization is a world-wide phenomenon, which is especially pronounced in Latin America. Students in the Urbanism and Community Development concentration study Latin American urbanism and the methodologies of place-making through the disciplines of Community & Regional Planning, Architecture, and Landscape Architecture. With these methodologies, students develop strategies to study the function of place, the human ecology of place, the role of tradition in settlements, the persistence of rural spaces, and the richness of specific places in order to advocate for that place in the context of settlement planning and rapid urban growth.
