Spanish American Literature

The concentration in Spanish American literature combines literary and cultural studies approaches to literary and non-literary texts, through the lenses of cultural geographies; race, ethnicity, class, and gender; social justice, rights, and insurgency; and period and genre. Students learn textual analysis, attention to detail, communicative skills, and critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. The concentration prepares students for continued study at the doctoral level as well as enriching their preparation to teach literature and culture at the high school and community college level. The focus on literary and other cultural texts complements studies in other fields of the Humanities and Social Sciences through its attention to human creativity, thought, experience, and emotion.
