Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar
Eligibility:
The competition occurs annually in the Spring semester. Specific deadlines TBA. Invited to apply are scholars (both U.S. and international scholars) , junior faculty, and graduate students in the U.S. who specialize in Latin America. The award honors Dr. Richard E. Greenleaf, distinguished scholar of colonial Latin American history, and his extensive career in teaching, research and service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar will work to promote scholarly use of the Latin American collections, focusing on objectives with specific relevance to the UNM Library collections. Awardees will be asked to make a brief presentation to LAII faculty and students during their visit to UNM and to submit a brief 3-5 page summary of their research findings and any modifications made to their original proposal.
Terms of the Award:
Through the Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar Fund, LAII provides three separate awards: one long-term (minimum three months) award for $10,000 and two short-term (minimum two weeks) $2,000 awards to help defray travel and housing costs for Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Application Materials:
A selection committee will award the grants on the basis of relevance of the proposal to the unique holdings of UNM University Libraries, the merits and significance of the project, and the applicant's scholarly qualifications. Special consideration will be given to projects that will utilize the research materials available through the Colonial Latin American or New Mexican and Southwest documentary collections at Zimmerman Library's Center for Southwest Research. Potential researchers are invited to learn more about the collections by visiting the Division of Iberian and Latin American Resources (DILARES) library home page.
Application materials should include the following:
- completed application cover form
- research proposal not to exceed three (3) pages in length (specifying which library materials/collections you intend to use as your primary resources)
- proposed travel itinerary
- budget (including travel and living expenses)
- applicant's résumé/curriculum vitae
Proposals that are mailed should be postmarked by the deadline; all faxed and electronic materials should be submitted by the deadline. Faxed materials should be sent to 505-277-5989.
