Every Spring semester, the LAII holds a competition for faculty grants to support field research in Latin America, Spain, or Portugal. The objective of these grants is to give UNM faculty members opportunities to begin field work on new projects or to complete, supplement, or add a comparative dimension to field research conducted previously.
Field Research Grant applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on March 22, 2017. A Help Session will be held at the LAII on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. All first-time applicants are encouraged to attend.
More information is available in the Faculty Field Research Grant (FRG) Application.
The Latin American and Iberian Institute at UNM requires recipients of field research grants and similar awards to formally acknowledge the Institute's role in supporting their scholarly research. The expectation is that recipients expressly acknowledge LAII support in any resulting published or presented work (posters, papers, theses, dissertations, white papers, and the like) and, to the extent possible, any publicity resulting from successful research funding, for a period of five years following the completion of the research. The LAII deeply appreciates acknowledgment beyond the five year period in any presented work resulting from the LAII funding. Poster displays and presentations should include the LAII logo. Recipients should continue to acknowledge seed funding from the LAII even after additional funding has been awarded.
Acknowledgement allows the LAII to demonstrate to donors that the funds are used to successfully further academic research. This helps the LAII in securing funding to support field research opportunities for other scholars.
