The University of New Mexico Campus
The main campus of
UNM in Albuquerque is noted for the unusual beauty and harmony of its pueblo-style
architecture (tours are available at
the UNM web site). Campus attractions include six libraries, theaters, a performing
arts center, eight galleries and museums, research laboratories, athletic facilities,
student dormitories, and a campus observatory. The campus is also home to two
state-supported Centers for Technical Excellence and maintains a strong relationship with
the many nearby US government research laboratories.
The Campus Arboretum is one of the state's
outstanding botanical experiences, set in the midst of one of New Mexico's great public
open spaces. Enjoy the Southwestern architecture, plazas, fountains, sculptures, and a
championship golf course (available to students).
The after-class
calendar at UNM is crowded with dances, concerts, intramural sports, art shows, and
lectures.
The university's location offers extraordinary
opportunities for cultural enrichment and travel. Albuquerque and Santa Fe are
internationally recognized centers for the performing and visual arts. Tricultural
enrichment is a New Mexico trademark, including Hispanic, Native American, and Anglo
cultures, each with their own traditions and ceremonial calendars.
Albuquerque's sunny, mild climate encourages
recreational activity year-round, catering to every season and taste: bicycle paths,
parks, running and walking trails criss-cross Albuquerque. Several national parks and
forests are nearby, offering excellent camping, hiking, and rock-climbing. Nearby
cross-country and downhill skiing attract novices and experts from all over the country.
