Animal Symbolism in the Mesoamerican Codex Tradition

A symposium on the pre-Hispanic meaning of animals from the perspectives of language, archaeology, and art.  Continuations of these traditions into the colonial and modern eras will also be considered. Nine speakers will represent research institutions in the U.S. and Mexico.  Attendance is free and open to the public.  To encourage the teaching of related topics in K-12 classrooms, there will be special sessions with professional development credit for teachers.  Preregistration is required because seating is limited http://laii.unm.edu/animal-symbolism/registration/.
